Tiggi Wrote:I think both Pet Sounds, & Sgt Pepper are over-rated.
They both contain some good material, but both also contain some distinctly average songs. Not nearly strong enough to convince me that these two are amongst the best ever recorded.
Of course, it's all subjective...
i have both albums, as i guess a lot of people here do. i havent heard "pet sounds" for some time now but i remember thinking last time i played it that it is just an average 1960s album with one great song in "god only knows", i thought i thought the same about "sgt.peppers" but it surprised me by getting around 2.7 when i reviewed it a while ago.
i think both albums sound dated and stuck in the era they were made and that in my opinion discounts them from being rated so highly in those "all time best of" lists, great albums IMO stand the test of time for the following reasons:
1. stands the test of time to sound relevant in the modern age
2. be good enough to sound 'fresh and alive' in 2011.
IMO the Beach Boys were a great singles band but failed to hit the mark with albums, all the Beatles albums bar "sgt peppers" and "let it be" are classics and have the two qualities listed above.

overrated: "ok computer" radiohead
I once searched the internet to find what was considered the best album of all time. After my searches, this album was the one. I even heard other people say how much this album is great. So I gave it a proper listen. After song #6, I remember that I could not continue because I could not understand what was SO INCREDIBLY GREAT about this album. It seemed like just another alternative album among others.
So if someone could explain me in it's own words why he like this album so much, please do so and why it stand out among others of the same genre.

I wish I could, I don't get it either. Radiohead is way overrated in my humble opinion. I saw them open up for another band it was like torture for me. I thought they were awful.

Add me to the list. Bought OK Computer on the strength of reviews. Was expecting a monumental album. Complete rubbish. And if another person says to me they sound like Pink Floyd I am going to recommend they get their hearing seen to. 1/10.

i would have thought that "complete rubbish" certainly qualifies for sounding like Pink Floyd LMFAO
