What Are You Listening To?
time is a strange thing MH....i didnt like the disco thing either, but when i played the Bee Gees "one night only" live album the other week, i was impressed with a lot of the disco stuff....i guess it has stood up well over the last three decades....definately a sing of good song writing!...Jive Talkin' is now one of my favourite Bee gee tracks!(but dont tell anyone!)

Just bought this on cd a couple of weeks ago. Still unopened down in the to listen to stack. Then I pull the vinyl
out of the box. Wasn't even sure I had the vinyl. Still wanted it on cd. All is good. Also own the 5 studio albums.
Yes I love Simon & Garfunkel. Grew up on these guys. This first compilation was two years after the breakup. Didn't
grieve as long as Sonny & Cher, but it was a tough period. All the big hits are here. Went to #5 on the chart. Only
thing I don't like here is that Emily thing. Unusual for me is that this album contains a few live tracks of the
hit, rather than the released studio version. Seems strange for a Greatest Hits album. Those songs would have
scored even higher had they been the studio. Just not the same. Couldn't even sing along. But I love most of the
album. Best track is certainly difficult. Gotta go with the Bridge, but I Am A Rock, Sound Of Silence, The Boxer,
etc, all love tracks. Would probably bring this album to that island place.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - For Emily (Wherever I May Find Her)

Best Track - Bridge Over Troubled Water

When you're weary, feelin' small
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all
I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough, and friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down

When you're down and out, when you're on the street
When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you
I'll take your part, oh when darkness comes, and pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind

Sail on silver girl, sail on by
Your time has come to shine, and all your dreams will run their way
See how they shine, oh, if you need a friend, I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water, I will ease your mind

Funny, I've been listening to this^^^ this week. I think it's my only Simon & Garfunkel but I love it.

M83 "saturdays=youth" cd, 2008

usually when i go and see corey i get him to pick an album or an artist i know little or nothing about for something different, which he duly does, and have had few complaints with what he chooses for me...this one by theses French guys was one of the first he chose for my about two years ago, heard it several times and felt it was time to post it here...

an instantly likeable collection of songs much in the vein of 1980s synth based bands Cocteau Twins and OMD combined with the ethereal vocal quality from Kate Bush(from the female vocalist)...vocals alternate between male and female on different tracks...i cnat rate one better than the other as both fit well on the album
even the instrumental tracks "couleurs" and "midnight souls still remain" rate "likes" from me..which is unusual for an instrumental for me, but it does fit well with the rest of the album, but being an instrumental i gotta put "midnight..." down as worst track....best one for me here is "up!"...a very Kate Bush-esque sound-a-like IMO.

"allmusic" rates this one 4/5 which equates to 2.4 on the MHRS, probably a touch high in my opinion, but nevertheless a pretty good album, not sure whether i'll search out their back catalogue but this one is good enough for me to be happy playing!

Linda's 11th, and a close call for a passing grade. Quite a drop off from her previous in sales also with a #32
showing. The leadoff track and first single was a clunker for me and only reached #29, the highest charting of the
4 singles released. Some covers, Billy Joe Royals I Knew You When, which I loved by him, does get a fair effort
here, but the Knickerbockers Lies and Tell Him by (drawing a blank) should have been left in the studio. Best for
me is Talk To Me Of Mendocino, which is a Kate McGarrigle song, so I assume it was done by her, but I don't recall
hearing it. I prefer Linda doing the softer material. In fact, I think her best albums for me were those big band
covers with Nelson Riddle. A duet with James Taylor here on I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine passes, along with a
Dolly Parton song, My Blue Tears, which features Dolly and Emmylou. Not sure if that one is on one of those albums
they did together. The album was nominated for 2 grammys losing out to Mellisa Manchester and Pat Benatar.

Worst Track - Lies

Best Track - Talk To Me Of Mendocino

I bid farewell to the state of old New York
My home away from home
In the state of New York I came of age
When first I started roaming
And the trees grow high in New York State
And they shine like gold in the autumn
Never had the blues from whence I came
But in New York State I got 'em

Talk to me of Mendocino
Closing my eyes I hear the sea
Must I wait
Must I follow
Won't you say come with me

And it's on to South Bend, Indiana
Flat out on the western plain
Rise up over the Rockies
And down on into California
Out to where but the rocks remain
And let the sun set on the ocean
I will watch it from the shore
Let the sun rise over the redwoods
I'll rise with it till I rise no more

Talk to me of Mendocino
Closing my eyes I hear the sea
Must I wait
Must I follow
Won't you say come with me

ELTON JOHN "goodbye yellow brick road" cd,1973.

another el-cheapo from the discount bin last week, well its another one i am playing out of purchase order but after that Jet album i needed to know i was going to hear something i knew was good to restore my equalibrium this afternoon...its so good to hear this one on cd instead of dusty vinyl...well worth the investment and upgrade IMO!
this is the Elton album that all others are judged by, spent forever in the UK and Aust charts, and a fair while in the US charts also and spawned a handful of hit singles over a period of 18 months back in the day...
various styles ranging from the beautiful ballad "candle in the wind"(not that crappy thing he re-wrote for that stupid Diana person!) through to the rip roaring rock n roll of "saturday night's alright for fighting".
a very, very good double album overall, a couple of tracks i dont like, but isnt that the case with double albums in general..?

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

too many tracks to list and get links for, but 7 loves,7 likes and three dislikes(as listed here)..."this song has no title", "grey seal" & "dirty little girl".
