I have a feeling that most of this hate for rap is based on whatever is popular (rap wise) at the moment.
Rap is more of a poetry/rhyme/lyrics spoken while music is playing.
Though musical values of usual rap listener, made it so that nowadays there is no need for actually lyrical ability to be popular rap artist.
An example of actually skilled, but less popular rap artist:
