The end of "good" music
#31
Music Head Wrote:I've been watching the charts for the past 5 decades
here is the Billboard chart from 50 years ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_...es_of_1965

I'm betting most people who follow music know of most of these artists

now here is the chart for this week

http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100

you will never convince me that most of these artists will be known even 20 years from now

a good amount of them but not really the majority unless you're willing to admit a bias in who and what you follow

The Weeknd, Drake, Rihanna, Adele, Flo Rida, Future, Bieber, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Coldplay, Gwen Stefani, Tim McGraw, and Wiz Khalifa probably will. maybe Young Thug and Major Lazer. I'd be surprised about Twenty One Pilots but then again anything could happen

and when you grow up exposed to computer noise that is generated by video games you actually think that is music

and God bless you too JOSH
I actually like some video game music at least the stuff that I grew up hearing when I was a kid anyway. I loved the Super Mario Brothers music. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. The Donkey Kong music was good too. Smile Smile Smile
Listen to my most favorite singer here sometime, James Otto that is!

The real legends are a thing of the past. Sad to say :frown:
These "artists" today are such phonies (for the most part anyway).

Overall today's Pop music bores me to tears! Hard to be great when it's already been done!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

"legends" are a thing from the past, albeit stories, heroes, singers, etc etc...
that is why theyre called 'legends'...

no one thought Elvis, Beatles, Who, Supremes, Willie etc would be around longer than a couple of years, much the same as we see modern
artists.

our parents/grandparents all thought rock and roll was a passing trend that wouldn't last past the end of the 1950s.

Bob Dylan was once asked by a reporter how he coped with being a legend,
his reply..."im not a legend, legends are dead people!"

going back to Paul McCartney from a paraphrased quote from the mid 1960s...
"i don't see us being around having hits five years from now"
"i cant envision a time when we're still playing to audiences when we're forty, and if we are, it would be
embarrassing at that age still playing 'love me do'/'she loves you' to teenage girls"

well, fifty years later, at aged 73, he is still selling out stadiums, he's still singing old Beatle tunes and he says
its cool to see four generations of people at his shows...

the next two, three or four decades will decide who becomes a legend from the modern era of music.
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
