What Are You Listening To?
[Image: 220px-Lily_Allen_-_It%27s_Not_Me%2C_It%27s_You.png]

LILY ALLEN  "its not me, its you" cd, 2009.

Cockney Gal, Lily's second of four...
her songs all detail the trials and tribulations of late teen, early 20-something females and the social pressures put upon them...
theres some language on here, its her 'F you" album, with lots of sarcasm and humour attached...
sort of like a "jagged little pill" but satirical...
pop and electopop with tinges of jazz and country splattered throughout...
her best album by far IMO...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

fave is still the mega hit:

Oh, he treats me with respect, he says he loves me all the time
He calls me fifteen times a day, he likes to make sure that I'm fine
You know I've never met a man who's made me feel quite so secure
He's not like all them other boys, they're all so dumb and immature.

There's just one thing that's getting in the way
When we go up to bed, you're just no good, it's such a shame
And I look into your eyes, I want to get to know you
And then you make this noise, and it's apparent it's all over.

It's not fair and I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean, I think you're really mean
Oh, you're supposed to care, but you never make me scream
You never make me scream.

Oh, it's not fair and it's really not ok
It's really not ok, it's really not ok
Oh, you're supposed to care
But all you do is take
Yeah, all you do is take.

Oh, I lie here in the wet patch, in the middle of the bed
I'm feeling pretty damn hard done by, I spent ages givin' head
Then I remember all the nice things that you've ever said to me
Maybe I'm just overreacting, maybe you're the one for me

CULTURE CLUB  "colour by numbers" vinyl/cd 1983

a revisit...
their second of six and if im going to be perfectly honest, the only one that is essential (apart from compilations IMO)...
ten track, each one as good as the previous iMO...
some pop, lots of r+b/soul and a hint of Gospel on a couple of tracks...
an absolute pop masterpiece, probably the finest example of 'blue-eyed soul' from not only the 1980s but the rock era, period!.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

a little something different this tome around, gotta love the powerful soulful backing vocals from Helen Terry on this one:

HUMAN LEAGUE  "dare" vinyl/cd 1981

a revisit...
one of the few electro-pop albums of the 1980s that still stand up and sound fresh IMO..
good catchy tunes and grooves...
album contains the mega-platinum "dont you want me" plus "love action" and "open your heart"...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

my favourite track wasnt even a single but was released later in 2008 as part of a remixed dance "ep"

Take time to see the wonders of the world
To see the things you've only ever heard of
Dream life the way you think it ought to be
See things you thought you'd never ever see

Take a cruise to China
Or a train to Spain
Go 'round the world
Again and again
Meet a girl on a boat
Meet a boy on a train
And fall in love
Without the pain

Everybody needs love and adventure
Everybody needs cash to spend
Everybody needs love and affection
Everybody needs 2 or 3 friends

These are the things
These are the things
The things that dreams are made of
These are the things
These are the things
The things that dreams are made of

Take a lift to the top of the Empire State
Take a drive across the Golden Gate
March, march, march across Red Square
Do all the things you've ever dared

Everybody needs love and adventure
Everybody needs cash to spend
Everybody needs love and affection
Everybody needs 2 or 3 friends

These are the things
These are the things
The things that dreams are made of
These are the things
These are the things
The things that dreams are made of
Like fun and money and food and love
And things you never thought of
These are the things
These are the things
The things that dreams are made of

New York, ice cream, TV, travel, good times
Norman Wisdom, Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee, good times

MICHAEL JACKSON  "invincible" cd,  2001.

his tenth studio album...
final one released whilst he was still breathing air through his fake-ass nostrils....
cost me $1 at a second hand market a while ago, i should take it back and demand a refund because that was awful!...
nothing on here i liked in the slightest...
a failure by his high sales figures also, only selling 8 million copies worldwide....
(sometimes cover art sums up an album and this is one of those....bland !)
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

lead off single
cant stand the song but the 'mini-movie' video is pretty cool just to see him bust his moves.

a twenty track compilation, and what a compilation it is!
very few artists can claim to have a better list of singles than what appears on this disk...
excellent songwriting and performances from the get-go, pop perfection!

CHER  "the greatest hits" cd, 1999.

a Euro/Aussie only release...
19 tracks
14 are from her 'comeback years' of the 1980s and beyond...
i do not care for half of those ones but still love her voice...
best tracks for me are the five from the 60s-70s, strange that "half breed" isnt on here???
overall, not a bad album...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite (because Half Breed isnt an option)

NO DOUBT  "tragic kingdom" cd, 1995

their third...
always hard to know if these guys (and gal) are pop or rock as they could fit in either at times...
sixteen million worldwide sales of this album, easily the biggest of their career...
always seems to be a couple of weak tracks on their albums and this is no different, but overall, still pretty good...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite is the obvious choice...

MADONNA  "confessions on a dance floor" cd, 2005

her tenth of fourteen
she lost me before this album but i purchased it for $1 at a market a while ago...
and if i am perfectly honest i wish i could get my money back!...
that was abysmal, EDM, electronic-pop crap..
cant believe it managed ten million worldwide sales but it did...
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

lead off single (even a co-write with Benny and Bjorn couldnt save it!)
