Restructuring The Forum Genre Boards
#21
Well I have only one thing I would like to see just to make life easier . Putting pictures on a thread in a social group . Unlike here there seems not to be the means to do it . I have been wanting to put a picture on the Album Info Thread in the Beatles Social Group and can I do it ? No I can't . Yet can do it everywhere else . So that is something that wants sorting . :lock1:

Hi David,

The changes under discussion here are restricted to the forum boards, but hopefully Ambernector will be able to assist with the Social Groups.

Seeing as you guys listen to far more diverse material than myself, I will leave it up to you. I do think reggae belongs in a group by itself and that 'ambient' music should fall under electronica etc. ??!! Just an opinon. And is there a slot for ethnic music - maybe this can cover traditional types of music??!! Or even reggae too. You decide. 'World' music is too vague.

There may be a degree of disagreement about the current categories Jerome, but the reasoning behind them is something like:

- Reggae is a unique form, but too minority a taste to warrant its' own board. It's ended up grouped with Folk, Country, and World Music as they're all based on traditional Folk Music.

- I'd agree that Ambient would fit within Electronica. The reason it isn't mentioned specifically is that sub-genres were pretty ruthlessly pruned to avoid cluttering the board titles.

- The term World Music seems to be a touch controversial, but to me it encompasses ethnic forms of music - Folk Music, maybe - from around the world. It'll predominantly feature non-Western musical forms or English lyrics.

There have been a few rumblings over the genre classifications recently, so if there's a consensus for some minor changes, then let's debate, people !!

It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it

I tend to agree, Griff.

It's important, though, to seek regular feedback (I learned that from you, BTW :biggrinSmile.

If that's the way you want to go I'm fine with that - I don't think it's a major issue anyway - people will always find their way to the music of their choice.
