Thanks for clarifying Music Head
hmmm... that might change the order slightly because I quite like Reggae. But the Country & Folk side of things puts me off that category, which is why it's bottom.

i dont think i have a favourite genre, i like bits of everything. i find it so hard to compare genres because how do you say elvis presley is better than ac/dc, or johnny cash to eminem....you cant, they are all good in their own rights. music is generic to me it either does something for me or it doesnt, and there is no good or bad, anyone who can play an instrument or write a song has some talent, unlike those plastic wannabes on idol,x-factor etc, because they havent done the hard yards of working in pubs/clubs, busking etc, they have no 'history' or 'soul' attached to what they do
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

Now come on, you oughta be able to rank the genres. You can't find them all equal. Are ya Scared? cared:

At least Keith Moon could throw a drumkit around in fine style. That X-factor lot can't even throw a tantrum properly. And it's not like they haven't practiced it umpteen times over for the benefit of the cameras. God, the shrinks would have a field day with that lot.

Music Head Wrote:Good point on the Idol talent and very true. 1. rock i grew up listening to the rock 'n' roll of the 50s/60s 2. country/folk i have an appreciation of country now, used to detest it,folk likewise, reggae i dont really care for,bob marley is ok,ub40 also but thats it for me,like few bits and pieces of others like tosh 3. alternative 4. hard rock 5. pop 6. soul/r&b/hip hop like real soul, the stuff from the 60s/70s, r&b from the early rock days, not the crap they call r&b now, people forget its 'rythem and blues', hip hop, most of it is rubbish, like b.i.g, eminem, 2pac, public enemy 7. jazz/blues getting more into it as i get older 8. film 9. electronic 10 opera/classical just staring to appreciate it now, still a long way to go before i can say i like it

Ok here we go
1. Rock - in all its different disguises - particulalry fond of the 'epic' albums. Like the blend of classical and rock. 2. Instrumental stuff like Mike Oldfield/Vangelis & T.Dream which leads to ...... 3. Electronic/Ambient stuff - JMJ/Eno 4. Folk - actually started off with this many moons ago, N Young, S Phillips, B Dylan and many many more (ever listen to Sixto Rodriguez? - the best street poet) 5. Classical - don't know much about it but building up a big collection over the last few years. Quite amazing what those old masters came up with. 6. Reggae - Uncle Bob is still King. 7. Film - Like the music from 'Babel' I would include 'World Music' in this category. Peter Gabriel/Ennio Morricone etc. 8. Don't know what alternative is - an alternative to what? 9. Jazz - never really understood why someone could go beserk on a saxophone while someone else goes beserk on the drums and it's called music. i.e Weather Report. I know I am wrong but I just don't get it. I must be retarded or something.... 10. ©rap, and any other form of music which uses the blatant exploitation of people (i.e. women), where 'musicians' (ha ha) wear clothing that doesn't fit and think it's cool to wear fake gold chains big enough to anchor the Titanic. They regard the electric turntable as an instrument. (Please play a Adim9th chord). Add in the absolute stupidity of bouncing ugly-looking cars up and down and you end up with a music form that is as relevant as waterproof teabags. 11. The Spice Girls aka Sticky Vicky & the Airheads. 12. Jedward. This has to epitomise the lengths people will go to to be famous. And expose the dummies that buy it.
