Debut from the man who would go on to become one of the top selling artists in AOR history. Also probably one of the top ridiculed artists of all time, but I don't think he really cares. Starting as a jingle writer for products such as McDonalds and Dr. Pepper, he would soon hook up with Bette Midler as her pianist. Although Barrys career would not take off until album number two and the hit Mandy, that would cause Arista label head Clive Davis to go back and re-release Could It Be Magic off of here. The album came out in 1973, but it would be 1975 before the album made it to #28 on the U.S. charts, with that song going to #6. Five years after it's original release, it would peak at #25 on the U.K. charts. That is the only excellent track on here for me. I love the build up on this rather long version, which had to have been cut back from the original 6:50 for the single. The rest of the album falls short of Barrys best work.
