Ok. So I have an updated version. This is probably more the best of the influential punk rock bands (I am not going to include The VU or Stooges) because they were closer to art rock than punk rock was in the late 70s but were punk for their era. These are in no particular order:

Sex Pistols
Operation Ivy
Ramones
Buzzcocks
Siouxsie & and the Banshees
Got some time on your hands? Or wanna check out new (or old) music? Come have a read - http://www.wecalleditmusic.com/

no, not really Tiggi, because someone will do it again.
i got Greenday's 'bullet in a bible' bluray the other week, its brilliant, love Greenday, and they have a lot of energy on stage and theyre the closest thing to 'original' punk there is,but they still lack the raw power of Clash,Pistols,Ramones,Sham69 etc.
how can they be called punk when they wear eyeliner, lipstick, paint their finger nails black.....thats Emo, sh*t!, John Lydon with makeup on?
you gotta be kidding man,it didnt happen

There's always an exception: Think Dave Vanian from The Damned...

I'd not class Siouxsie & The Banshees as Punk. They're Post-Punk as far as I'm concerned. Not enough ferocity...
