Just reading through some fantastic lists above....
Gryphon- that's amazing you've met Al Stewart. One of scotland's finest songwriters/musicians! Did you ever get to see the late great John Martyn live? Also, Dire Straits- wow! Which tour was it?

Crazy Horse- Would have loved to seen Pearl Jam live in their heyday. Loved every album up until the recent 'Backspacer' one which just sounds far too poppy in comparison to their previous work. I thought the self-titled 'avocado' album prior to the current one was an overlooked masterpiece.


Tiggi- woah! Far too many to mention all but The Blues Band I am going to see for first time in February. Also when did you see Neil Young? Surprised at the Britpop inclusions there, I never thought that would have been your thing! Pulp & Ride are both great bands though but 'These Animal Men'!?- I got some of their tracks on download and let's just say they left a lot to be desired! One of the less serious bands of that genre.

Me- I only started going to gigs back in September but have already racked up a huge amount of gigs in that short time. Here they are in order;

Ricky Warwick & New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack (spent most of Warwick's set talking with the latter!)
Ian Hunter & The Rant Band
Walter Trout (2 times in space of 3 days!)
Steve Reich & Icebreaker (latter was advertised as Philip Glass (:mad but instead was a group playing his 'Music With Changing Parts' composition. Still very good though!)
The Unwinding Hours/RM Hubbert/Twilight Sad (all scottish artists- went to this on my 21st b-day)
Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy
Kodo Drummers
Francis Dunnery
Anderson/Wakeman Project
Edwyn Collins
Hugh Masekela & Mahotella Queens
Brubecks play Brubeck (Dave Brubeck's 3 sons Darius, Chris & Dan along with sax player Dave O'Higgins)
Cast (Liverpudlian lesser known Britpop band of the 1990s- recentley reformed!)

So, 16 in total in the space of 3 months! Most of the above I've written about in my infamous blog :wink:.

Neil Young was a couple of years ago, headlining a festival about 50 miles from here.

These Animal Men were at a tiny theatre in Canterbury, a real sweat box. Wouldn't listen to their recordings, but they were a great high-energy live band when we saw them.

Haven't seen the Blues Band for years, but they were always very, very good live.

Nice, that would probably be his Chrome Dreams period then. It's cool you can say you've seen These Animal Men live cos they were one of those 'bands of the moment' and are very unlikely to reform. Dont think they even released any actual albums, just a handful of singles. When I saw Cast last week it was very much the same you're describing- very high energy and entertaining band to experience live. Also when I saw Walter Trout at The Ferry it was unbelievably hot in there!

'Wire Less' is an outstanding live album by The Blues Band from around 1994. It's the only one I own but is good enough to get me into them and even prompt me to go to one of their gigs! Check it out if you havent already. Nice cover too:

My highlights until now were David Sylvian and David Bowie. David Sylvian I saw in Utrecht during his everything and nothing tour. Sylvian is quite an introvert performer but his voice and music were just fantastic. Other highlights were Roger Waters and Porcupine Tree. I also saw Sting and Willy deville who shared the same bill in my home town, as did Joe Cocker who also visited Enschede some years ago.

I was fortunate enough to visit the Beach Rock festival in Oostende (Belgium). I particularly liked David Bowie (obviously), Paul Weller and Doves (who both did go down that well with the belgian crowd). Also performing were No Doubt, Muse (whom I both did not like), Garbage, Prodigy and Gorki. Another performance I did like was Jamiroquai. Normally not really my music but I liked his show.

During my prog days I saw Marillion, Fish, Arena and Pendragon (acoustic).

The worst one I saw was U2 in 2001. The venue was too big, the sound was quite poor and there were simply too many distraction (like guys peeing in a plastic cup and throwing it out over the crowd - what great fun :-( - Luckily I was not showered myself...

In April 2011 I will go and see Roger Waters' performance of the Wall.

Yeah Willie Deville was excellent ! I did not really know his music but his performance was more inspiring than Sting who was on the same bill and who appeared to be performing on auto pilot. Still it was a good gig by Sting and I got to see Manu Katche play in Sting's band which was worthwhile.
