Man, this is gonna be painful. Only hope my 7 year old granddaughter doesn't read this. She purchased her very first cd with her own money. She asked me to listen to it. Ok, stop laughing. I mean seriously, what would you do? I just said, sure thing kid. For those who don't know, Selena Gomez is one of the latest Disney stars. Has her own show, Wizards of Waverly Place. This is her second album for the Hollywood label. Didn't take 'em long to ruin this competent little singer. I remember a song off of her debut that I thought was pretty good. Nothing I can say that for here. Too much electro-pop for me, complete with auto-tune. But then, what do I know? The album debuted at #4 on Billboard. Two singles didn't fare that well, with Round & Round at #24, and A Day Without Rain at #35, but both doing quite well on the dance charts. Only songs I liked were the two that are not dance tracks, Ghost Of You and Live Like There's No Tomorrow. So I guess Selena has found her niche. Just too bad it's not mine also. But she has gained one fan with my granddaughter. She loves Round & Round. I told her the album was ok, but I really only liked those two. Well, come on, I couldn't tell her it sucked.

must have got this one on the back of their "take the 'L'" single,should have just bought the two hits singles and left the album on the rack in the shop.

This is indeed a Dolly album, but no way with a straight face can I call this a country album. I may have heard a steel guitar on occasion, but a violin does not a fiddle make. Closest thing to country is probably Nickels And Dimes. Still, a couple of really nice pop tunes on here, in the title track and I Really Got A Feeling. Ironically those two hits were both #1 on the country charts, so hey, what the hell do I know? The album made #1 country also with a #27 showing on the pop charts. Problem is, after those two singles, and two others that at least pass, the rest of this is total crap for me. That would make six songs that I would never care to hear again. Think I gave Dolly one more chance after this one, then bailed. Two tracks here were given disco remixes, so that should tell you where this went. That album cover and the pic inside, some severe photo-shopping going on there. Gave you one of them remixes on that last track, so you can shake your groove thang.

FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS "the raw and the cooked" cd, 1988. #1 UK, #1 US, #2 AU

i seriously needed a break from doing 10 Ny albums in the 'beginners guide' this week and deliberatly picked out this happy,poppy album, normally i do random picks like MH, as its more interesting not knowing whats coming out next...but ive earned the right to consciously pick one today IMO!!
when ska band The Beat split up in the mid 1980s out of the ashes rose General Public and FYC. General Public kept the same formula as The Beat, FYC fused R&B,soul,funk,pop and dance to create their own infectious brand of danceable pop., several classics here on this their second album, it amazes me that out of the ten tracks six were big hits in the UK, five others here in Oz and the US...i must have forgot just how big these guys were in 86-89.
upon the opening intro to "im not the man i used to be" i realised just how close Cee-Lo is in sound to these guys. also love their version of The Buzzcocks "ever fallen in love" and the lead single "she drives me crazy"
Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads and Jools Holland both appear on this one as guests.
