Me and My Vinyl Engine !
#1
I wanted to start athread where people can talk about the album they have just listened to exclusivly on vinyl

I have just put my turntable back into action and as such and enjoying the merits of vinyl

I have just spun Ringo's Rotograve ( US version on Atlantic ) and have been impressed by the excellent full bodied sound

Incidently this is quite agood album even though the critics panned it at the time..................Watch out for the rare Clifford T Ward cover of

Birmingham from No more Rock and Roll badged as Lady Gaye !:nod:Cool

Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

[Image: gryphon-albums-four-picture1353-41leshc6nwl-aa115.jpg] This album marked amajor point in The Beatles career ......................It was rejected by Warner Bros in it's oringinal form because it was considered uncomercial!!!!!!! Now those of us who have acess to most of The Beatles work including Two Virgins, Electronic Sounds, Life With The Lyons and Wonderwall music.............will look and wonder.................. George responded manfully to this problem, removing four of the tracks and replacing them with four considered more commecial and he redesigned the cover but, not before adding his blistering attack on the recording industry " Blood From A Clone". He had the last laugh...............The album was a sucess, it sporned a big selling single in "All Those Years Ago" and it revitalisaeed his career. Looking at the vinyl copy one gets an alternative cover: [Image: gryphon-albums-four-picture1352-31mjs55efxl-aa115.jpg] IN adition this album is well pressed and has a suprising sonic range for a run of the mill pressing.
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

^ I went through these thoughts when I created this thread...............I spent quite a bit of time and money investing in a full set of stereo re-masters of The Beatles catalogue and even collected quite a bit of the Apple re-mastered catalogue too

As you do you compare these with the originals and you find the sonic differences and believe that you have made the correct move in buying them.

However, I did all this without having y turntable available to me and without finding the vinyl versions of the re-masters.
Now the story of the vinyl copies of the re-masters is an odd one! EMI suggest that for some reason the vinyl issues of the re-masters has been put on indefinite hold.

However I have something odd in my collection........
A copy of Rubber Soul...............Capitol CLJ 46440................Issued in the USA .........It is a digitally re -mastered copy of the original UK issue of the album. Issue date 2009.
Now a quick comparison of this against a re mastered CD shows the re mastered Cd struggling to keep pace..............This has better dynamic range, a better sound stage and a deeper bass response.

So I have been looking at a few other vinyl releases of albums and have found hat some but not all do show a better result on vinyl than CD even if re mastered. I’m more than convinced that it not he VD eplay system that is lacking as I can find some CDs of similar quality to good vinyl but I was amazed at how easy it is to show that vinyl has a better sound in some cases than CD.

Hence I wanted to continue posting my findings!

[Image: gryphon-albums-four-picture1355-51z8oc5k7kl-aa115.jpg] I have long looked back with fond memories to my first hearing of Tubular Bells .............way back in 1973 I head it on a long extinct radio program one saturday afternoon..........................I recall that it was a completely unique experience because as yet Rock had not reached it's symphonic stage and most racks were at max 10 mins long but here was a full fifty muniutes of glorious music. Over the years I have heard many recorded and live versions but I go to the version mentioned in the title of this post. I feel that in nearly forty years of hearing his that I know nealy every twist and turn to the mix..................from the slightly out of tune bass in the early parts to the tape sturations on side two's loud passages. I was a little cautoius because "Boxed " does have an SQ four chanel mix compatable with stereo but it is still facinating to hear how much more a vinyl version of this can add to the listening experience...................from the viseral power to the bass to the non muddly processing of the extrenly busy sections: this form of reproduction is clearly extracting more. There is so much more subtlty to the vinyl experience than on any digital version that I have come across!Cool

To borrow a phrase of your from your post. I remember hearing Tubular Bells for the first time and I have never looked back. I heard it first in South West Africa, in a place called Oranjemeund and the beach there looks a lot like the back cover of the original album sleeve. Only three artists have ever really made me sit up and take notice of a new direction in music - a sense that I was hearing something totally unique for the first time. Floyd, Jarre and Oldfield. Those three artists/groups defined my direction and my taste in music. I have still not heard anything as mind-altering or as ground-breaking since no matter how many albums I buy. I don't think I ever will but you never know. Someone might come along who changes the musical landscape completely. He/she is long overdue. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
