SHE & HIM "volume II" cd,2010.
very 1960s pop sounding record along the same lines as that old "its my party" song...same feel, sound, style!
liking all tracks here, but nothing stands out as either being terribly bad, nor anything can be said as being great neither...just a good set of laid back, easy listening songs to chill out to while driving the car...

from my daughters library (cd)
Wouldn't have bought this myself, and after hearing it I still wouldn't. This belongs to my daughter. She does come
through on occasion (Pink, Kings Of Leon, Counting Crows). This one does squeak through to a like, but doesn't
warrant a purchase from me. This is the groups fourth release and I guess they've hit the big time now, hitting #2
on the album chart, with Payphone leading the way. Hated that one when it first came out, probably because I was
watching the video for it, which as far as I can tell, has absolutely nothing yo do with the song. Must confess
though, the power of repetitive play wins again. After some headphone spins, and striving to block out the visual,
it does make a like grade. Excluding the rap part, which I still hate. Some dude named Wiz Kahlifa. And of course
that's his real name. Second single, just released here is One More Night. Like it better than Payphone, but don't see
it doing as well.

FRENTE! "marvin the album" cd,1992 #5 AU.
debut set by this short lived band(only releasing another single album after this one in '96)...
sort of a cross between the vocal quality of Altered Images, and the folky pop of Fairground Attraction i guess.
had a huge platinum selling single here with Accidently Kelly Street, and hit gold with Ordinary Angels...both on this album!, both of which sum up the album perfectly IMO
the female vocalist's vocals appear fragile in places(not sure if this is intentional or not), but they also get a bit irritating with that high pitched quality...not a bad album with some lovely tracks if you can get past the sometimes annoying vocals...which luckily, i can.

DUKE SPECIAL "songs from the deep forest" cd,2006.
Peter Wilson aka Duke Special was born in Ireland, grew up in London,UK and developed an affinity with oldtime vaudeville/music hall sounds...
this album is all that and more, lots of beautiful harmonies, melodies, songs of sadness and joy/love bringing this eccentric singer, who IMO, reminds me of Tim Minchen(comedian/singer) in a lot of ways...both completely 'out there' yet familliar enough to belong in mainstream pop...
the final track here sounds disturbingly similar to a lot of what Neil Finn did through the 1990s with Crowded House..
not surprisingly this off-beat album gets a very high score from me this time round...shame this album never charted anywhere to my knowledge as this guy is an amazing talent, well, who wouldnt be when they can utilise household impliments like cheese graters and egg beaters as instruments!

This is where the brothers started to drop off for me. I still blame it on Stigwood/Mardin getting a hold of them.
Only one standout on this one, Voices. Maybe the first BG album to get only one love score from me. One track that
sucked in Heavy Breathing. A preview of where the band was headed. This is the groups twelth album, and the first to
be produced by Arif mardin, who would take them to disco heaven. Their signature sound was still yet to develop in
it's mature form of Saturday Night Fever, but you could tell they were off to something different here. The fans
didn't care for it either, with a lowly #178 performance, and no hit singles. Of course a new and bigger fan base
was soon to be built. Don't guess they care they left me behind.

Wow, I take it the next album was Saturday Nite Fever? Yup,
the fan base sure did get larger, wow
And I suppose many find it hard to believe Barry is the
only one left, they certainly had a great career of music.

JIMMY BUFFETT "buffett hotel" cd,2009.
almost exactly a year ago today since i heard my first complete Buffett cd courtesy of Major Tim down in Florida....thinking i heard his debut set that time and i loved it!
so when i got back here to Australia i decided to get myself a JB album,Corey didnt have the debut...infact JB has very little on offer down this way...not very popular which i find surprising as i thought he'd have been big here due to the similarities between us and the Floridanians(both have laid back lifestyles, the sun,the beach etc)...
so anyway, Corey recommended this one as being as close to the sound on his debut set from 1970ish...
i dont quite love it yet, but its getting up that way and had it not been for a couple of tracks that i dont like, then this would be a brilliant album of pop-cum-country-cum-surf sounds!
hadr to pick a best track but i opted for the tongue in cheek dig at modern America and its politics/international policies....
sorry for the lack of links here guys!
