CARLEY SIMON "hotcakes" cd,1974.

the cd sets contain 5 original albums by artists and cost around the price it would normally cost to buy two standard cds...thus, very good value, have several of these from Bread to Bobby Darin to Warren Zevon and of course Carly....makes way more sense to buy them like this IMO and at least with the artists i choose i know im going to get my moneys worth...

anyway, back to Hotcakes...
Carly's fourth album, a conceptual album about the bliss of being married and pregnant(the cover picture is of a pregnant Carly)....she was married to James Taylor around this time and he does crop up on "mockingbird" with additional vocals...
Carly has one of the most beautifully pitch perfect voices in popular music in my opinion..up there with Karen Carpenter, and even with not so good songs i find their vocals carry the song through.
worst track on here for me, which isnt really that bad is the title track...gets the 'worst track' status purely becuase of its lack of length(approx 1:10), which could loosely be described as "early rap"...sort of like Blondie's "rapture" only several years prior to that.
other than that, a great album, will put up another one over the next few days, probably "anticipation" next time round.

BREAD "on the waters" cd, 1970

Bread's second album and the one that broke them into mainstream pop courtesy of the early 70s classic "make it with you" which incidently was their only #1 hit....
some nice harmonies and melodies here, a couple of great tracks and acouple of not so great tracks also, which seems to be part and parcel of a Bread album IMO...
i have five albums by these guys and they would all score about the same for me...very good band, but not a great band IMO,nice to listen to but certainly not up there with other similar artists of the same era overall...

This is the only studio album I have by these guys. From that listen I shoud have got more.
Very nice album here with one bomb, but four love tracks. Two of those were the hit singles but
the other two were actually a surprise. Guess it's been a long time since I heard this. This is
the duo's fourth album. The hits were Summer Breeze at #6 and Hummingbird at #20 giving the
boys their first hit album at #7. The next one scored even higher and then the decline began.
They split in 1980 after being dropped by the label. Crofts tried some solo work but nothing else from Jim. Jim's brother is Dan Seals who was popular for a minute or so in the country arena.

debut set from these Cleveland,Ohio guys....
this one could either go in the alt section or pop...i chose pop
got this one not long after i heard the single 'pumped up kicks'...love that one,also loving two others on here...
some real good songs on here IMO, not sure they'll ever match that pumped up song as a hit single,maybe wont ever top this album but what the heck, i am happy with this one with whatever comes next....just urprised that my favourite track 'houdini' isnt a single,its the best thing on here IMO

there were 17 tracks on mine, but 4 were remixes
only got a 2.0 from me, but probably would have scored higher minus the remixes
