JOHNNY BURNETTE "25 greatest hits" cd,1998

career stats:

studio albums: 4
singles: 31

xmas giftcard purchase #whatever.
i was never a big fan of Burnette, but my dad was/is so i decided to get a compilation of his singles.
this guy really only had a handful of hits outside the US, and really, not many more than that in the US.
the five i knew prior to purchasing this album as still ok, theyre not 'rock classics' by any means though...
there were a hell of a lot of other artists from that late 1950s,early 1960s period that were better.
singles like "clown shoes","big big world","youre sixteen","dreamin'" and "little boy sad" arent bad.
all up, this is a piece of crap, i guess an early death elevates an artist to legendary status even when theyre nowhere near that level when they are living, and this one proves it!
so,
twenty-five tracks on here, nine i like, the rest, well, i dont care if i never hear them again!
rating: 1.4

THE MONKEES "music box"

a four cd,100 track boxset that i picked up with my xmas giftcard vouchers...
i was never a fan of this, the worlds first true "boyband", but for $7 and a hundred tracks i couldnt go wrong....could i?
well, imo, i did...this is a piece of crap, probably around fifteen tracks i can honestly say i like, and none of those would fit into the "love track" catagory...
this is pure manufactured pop music, no better than half the crap in the charts right now...
i simply dont like this album in any way, shape or form whatsoever...and their tv series, i never liked that neither!

15 tracks you like for $7
I wouldn't call that a bad deal
but yea, 100 tracks, there has to be a lot of crap
so you don't love any of their singles?

Reply
no,sorry i dont?!?, sure i like their seven or eight 'big' hits, but wouldnt go out my way to listen to them

ADELE "19" cd, 2008

career stats:
albums...2
singles...13

this album: #1 UK,#3 AU,#4 CAN,#4 US

singles:
"hometown glory:............#19 UK
"chasing pavements"........#2 UK, 321 CAN, #21 US
"cold shoulder"................#18 UK
"make you feel my love"...#4 UK

debut set from adele...
im surprised i havent posted this one before on MD???
anyway this went mulit platinum all over the world eventually selling inexcess of 7million units worldwide...a flop realy, considering her next album sold 28million albums!
this one,her debut, is more acoustic sounding than her follow-up "21",and thats a good thing because it gives the listener a complete picture of what she can do with her voice and it shines through beautifully on this one...
i was surprised to find that her huge hit "chasing pavements" didnt even chart out here, it did get a lot of airplay though, and thankfully the album went double platinum here so all was not lost on our charts!
one surprise track on here is her cover of Dylan's "make you feel my love",originally recorded on his "time out of mind" set.
like her follow-up album the lyircs are superb, her vocals are fragile yet resilliant, powerful yet soft...this girl is streets ahead of the other female singers currently selling records and if she recovers from her throat operation properly she will have a long and successful career...and rightfully so!
a very good album indeed and anyone who loves strong female singers should get this one
