compilation set of Boy George and Culture Club..
this one isnt a completist set as it only covers their first three albums and includes a couple of tracks not previuously available on CC albums...
strange thing to me is that the single "move away" which was a hit in the UK and here is not included..but that was from their fourth studio set and theres nothing of that album on here.
its pretty hard not to tap your feet to the classic "karma chameleon" or "i'll tumble 4 ya"etc, or feel your spirits lifted during the gospel sounding "church of the poisoned mind" with backing vocalist Helen Terry's sublime vocals.
but the greatest moment here is the sublime haunting ballad "victims" in which George really does sing, and on it he sings really well...by far my favourite track of theirs.
album consists of bits of white-boy/blued-eyed soul, funk,pop,dance,gospel and everything inbetween...
these guys were about as big as anyone in the music business for about two and a half years back in the day, then the dreaded 'have money,have fame' concept kicked in and they freefalled into a world of vice,drugs and alcohol which ended their superb run of music prematurely...
either way,this is a cool album,i'd actually recommend that if anyone wants something by these guys that they get their second studio set "colour by numbers" as its up there with the greatest studio albums of the 1980s!

Grammy nomination for Best Pop Album losing to Joni Mitchell

The girl had reached her peak a few albums back but this one sold better than the previous Erotica, but only hitting the top of the chart in Oz.
Three x Platinum here works when you are going downhill. Says this was a transition period where she was trying to move in more of an r&b
direction. Most of the producers had worked with r&b artists. I can't tell it but the experts know. Title track was written by Bjork, the only
track Madonna has no writing credit. Thought my score would come out a low like on this, more like a high dislike and most of those came in the
second half. I think this is the last Madonna album I have so I must have called it quits. She had some good music must I never have liked her.
Guess we're getting into that topic of how do you seperate the music from the person. I'm not going there again.

Madonna...
i never liked her as a person..not sure whether its her self confidence(ie:arrogance),her skanky video's or her need for 'shock and awe'...just dont like her much at all...!
love her "ray of light" album though and like a couple of other albums, but thats it...
i had quite a few singles back in the day also(see 'my singles thread'). they came out pretty bad also generally...i dont think much of her music has stood up over the years.

Kelly's fifth studio album...
lots of 'punchy' pop/rock on htis album...sort of in the same feel as some of P!NK's album rockers...
even has a P!NK vocal quality at times...i love P!NK, so its pretty obvious i would either loathe Kelly for sounding similar in places or love her also...
i love her voice, and this album(i have the deluxe version) which has seventeen tracks and not the standard thirteen, is ver-very good IMO...
even the deluxe/bonus tracks are worthy of inclusion here,which is not always the case with added tracks...
IMO, this album is one of the best albums by a female vocalist in the last twenty years...up there with Alanis' "jagged little pill",Amy's "back to black" P!NK's "funhouse","im not dead", "truth about love" and " and Adele's "19" and"21"
this is rip-roaring stuff IMO
