Slide, lap steel, dobro, resonator guitar players!
#1
As many of you know I have an infinite love of The Beatles as well as female vocalists! My other love is the unpredictable sound of the slide guitar as well as the dobro (resonator guitar) and the steel guitar! Let's post some videos of these guitar styles

* as a sidebar, you can make a decent sounding guitar of your choice from a cookie tin, cigar box or oil can at hardly no cost...sounds sweet!

One of the best!!! on dobro!

That click-through arrow in the center doesn't work--click on the YT logo at bottom right.
Mr. Douglas doesn't need to be front and center--he's happy to be a sideman (it's pronounced "Lester" BTW): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz6TyI_MKgU
He's also so much more than a superb player--writer/arranger, producer, teacher--you name it; if it moves the music needle, he does it. Here's a written interview: http://www.guitarplayer.com/lessons/1014...glas/16794

Darned shame that the video examples on the above Guitar Player article are disabled, but it was from nearly a decade ago. Here's some lists of folks' favorite steel guitar players--plenty of fun cruising through those lists and then on to YT to hear'm.: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index...852AADOfL1 and budding players and fans can find a bunch of "how-to" vids as well.
Here's a thingie on how to make a cigar-box guitar (prolly works for biscuit tins too): http://cigarboxguitars.com/resources/how...box-guitar
Wanna get real about the dobro? Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Dobro_Sessions << after this, you're only limited by your imagination. Available used from the Usual Suspect for >$10 complete. I just ordered mine but there's plenty left.
About those National Reso Phonic guitars: here's their Facebook page with tons of different info, pics of how they are made, etc. etc.: https://www.facebook.com/nationalguitars But they aren't the only makers--evidently the instrument is huge in Europe. A Site from a Czech maker: http://www.amistar.cz/
Another list of of Top 20 Dobro players--interesting magazine for all guitar players/appreciators: http://www.theguitarjournal.com/the-top-...o-players/

...And I wondered what I was gonna do this afternoon...Ha! Thanks to Bro SteveO--problem solved.

This is different, but i really like it. It was re-released not too long ago, originally recorded on/for the Hearts of Space series

That's very nice - thanks for posting it.

Here's Calexico with Paul Niehaus (I think) on the steel guitar - definitley a distinctive sound!

Going a bit off-topic for a moment (but sure to please Bro SteveO), there's this home-brew guitar player: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcPJnolcSN4 << nothing cutesy or jokey about this guy--he's got 5 CDs in the last decade. http://www.nathandjames.com/ << He calls his axe a "washtar gitboard"--I call unique and terrific. He gigs mainly in Southern California but invite him to your festival and see what shakes.
