DONOVAN FRANKENREITER "move by yourself" cd, 2006

pro-surfer Frankenreiter's second album....
a bit reggae-ish, slightly soulful and a touch of blues in places....
still, its very laidback as you'd expect from a proffessional "beach-bum"....
nice smooth vocals and music for the most part, and way better than other pro-surfer turned singer Jack Johnson, whom i dont like...
just an average album, nothing bad, nothing great but it was purchased from a discount bin three or four years ago...
the only problem with this one is that just about everything either has the same melody and/or lyrical content...
good background music IMO...

ONE REPUBLIC "native" cd, 2013

career stats:
studio albums..........3
singles...................16

this album stats.............#4 US, #12 CAN, #8 AU, #6 UK
singles:
"feel again"...................#36 US, #59 CAN
""if i lose myself"...........#74 US, #41 CAN, #14 AU, #8 UK
"counting stars"..............#2 US, #1 CAN, #2 AU, #1 UK
""something i need"....................................#6 AU, #78 UK
"love runs out"..............#15 US, #4 CAN, #22 AU, #3 UK
"i lived"........................#32 US, #29 CAN, #86 AU, #29 UK

i put this one under 'pop' because like Maroon5 i consider then to be that instead of alternative...
i bought this one on the strength of that "something i need" single, which i love and the other one i love "counting stars"....
the album opens up with the fantastic "counting stars" but fails to lift until the second half when they get a bit more upbeat...
that said, i dont think its a bad album,it just fails to hit the heights of the two songs i love, which is a shame because they could be a very good band IMO
if they could maintain their levels...
i love the cover art also,i thinkit would transfer well to full 12" vinyl cover.

Didn't even know these guys were still around. An album out in 2013. Looks like I bailed out after the debut, and I liked it. Loved 3 of the 4 singles, and the abum put them
in the big leagues with a top 10 in the 4 countries that matter. Wore off fast here as it is their only album to make the top 10 and go Platinum. Not so in the homeland as
every album has made the top 10. I am not familiar with any album of these guys after this one. If anyone else is fill us in. How has their sound evolved? I'm thinking they
got to dance/electronic for me.

This debut album LP1 by FKA twigs was a total pleasure to listen to! In fact it was one of the few albums that I listened to more than once this year! This inventive and talented lady could be the next Lady GaGa with her outlandish fashion statements and somewhat bizarre appearance as well as great exciting music. Influences for her were Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Adam Ant. Her unique blend of soul, rhythm and blues, jazz and dream pop blew me away! It's an ultra modern journey into seductively infused muse with her beautiful angelic voice and original song writing. If there was ever an example of futuristic music this is it! The music sounds like it is emitting somewhere from outer space! Such a soothing relaxing album! One of the better release from last year. I am sure that the talents of Tahliah Debrett Barnett, twenty-seven year old writer, performer and arranger from Gloucestershire, England will be present for awhile. I hope she continues to release her music on a regular basis.

like MH...saw this on a couple of EOY 'best of' lists and wasnt confident enough to blindly buy it(as i sometimes do!)....

i listened to the linked video(i dont watch them, prefering to let the music do the talking...
it wasnt bad,
i then clicked on the first of your other links...Two Weeks....
i still cant decide whether i like or dislike the tracks as yet....

music is very sparse, vocals are mournful also IMO...
closest thing i can compare her to is probably(and im going out on a limb here) is...Lorde
only difference it Lorde's voice is slightly deeper than the vocalist in the links.

TAYLOR SWIFT "1989" cd, 2014

career stats:
studio albums.......5
singles................34
"ep's"..................3

this album stats: #1 US, #1 AU, #1 CAN, #1 UK
singles:
"shake it off"......#1 US, #1 AU, #1 CAN, #2 UK
"blank space".....#1 US, #1 AU, #1 CAN, #4 UK
"style"..............#29 US,#11 AU, #30 CAN, 147 UK

Taylor's fifth studio set....
got this one when it was released as i m a huge fan of Ms.Swift....
never thought of her as a country artist anyway and one of my pet hates is people who refer to her as such...
IMO, her first couple of albums had a couple of country sounding tracks, the rest were ballads, her third album much the same but starting to venture into 'pop' a bit more,
her fourth album 'red' was a whole lot of pop with a couple of ballads and one or two country sounding tracks, but this, her fifth album is all pop.
the tracks "shake it off" and "blank space"(the two lead off singles) sum up the album musically to a tee, probably more of the "blank spane" sound than the former though.
i havent collated the scores for this one yet even though ive dont them but it appears to come out pretty good at a glance....
tough call for best track here...either the hit single "blank space" or the album track "bad blood", either way,i'll post both here...
all-up,whatever the final score, this is a very good pop album from one of the best female singer/songwriters going round right now...no, not just female, but one of the best singer/songwriters going round right now!
ok,
just collated the score it is the equal to "speak now" and "fearless" IMO...her self titled debut comes in likeable though, and i havent posted "red" as yet so time will tell on that one!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM
