Do you care about the lyrics?

When you listen to a song, do you care about the lyrics?

I like to listen to a lot of foreign songs which I don't even understand the meaning of the lyrics.
Anybody share the same things here?

I am esssentially bilingual and live in an area where the musical flavours come in four tastes: English, Dutch, French and German..........as a result there can be a tendancy to listen less to the lyrics in a language which is not one's own.............However in Dutch or English I tend to find the lyrics very important and sometimes they are the main thing.................Listening to James Taylor on the way to work , I feel that even though he is a great guitar player..........the emotion of the song was convayed maostly by the lyric.Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

It depends on the song. Something upbeat and bouncy I don't really pay attention to the lyrics.(exception "Werewovles of London", got to have those lyrics). But take a tune like "The Wayward Wind" it is a nice song but would not mean as much without the lyrics.

Most definitely - the most important part of any song. Remember in a 'song' the music is there to support the words or to enhance a particular sentence or phrase. Pieces where the words are irrelevant are called instrumentals. BTW a pet peeve of mine is when people say listen to this song and it turns out to be an instrumental. The most original title for a song? Elton John's 'This Song Has No Title' Amazing track by the way. http://youtu.be/nZdDxR_IDgk This one too - marvellous - http://youtu.be/grYBKcuWowM

ultimately my favourite artists are ones who have something intelligent to say, the melody of the track and/or the vocalists singing quality comes second to me, even if the artist has political songs with opposing views to those of my own i will still listen and if they put their message across reasonably then thats even better.

i guess with lyrical content being #1 in my book then i guess this is the reason why i dislike disco/dance tracks
the same goes for instrumental tacks...without lyrical content i need to "feel" the music,if it has no soul i dont like it.

CH I strongly urge you to listen to Sixto Rodriguez - an album called Cold Fact. Think you will like it. Plenty of it on YT.

Lyrics are important to me, although I tend to absorb music first and then focus on lyrics as I get more familiar with an album.

Sixto Rodriguez is amazing !!!!...thanks Jerome !!! I tend to go for both lyrics and good music that's why I love the Beatles !!!!

When I feel in the mood for something uptempo and raunchy the lyrics don't mean a whole lot. As for ambient and other instrumental music I go for the non lyrical content obviously but I do enjoy vocalese (vocals without lyrics) very much !!!
