opinion on McCartney's isolated vocals.
#1
just wondering what you guys think of Paul McCartney's isolated vocals on this one as he sings in falsetto.

is it just me or does he sound weak and off-key/flat to your ears also?

PS, would love to know how the author of this clip managed to get the vocals isolated??

When isolated, most vocals will sound slightly off. It's the sound(s) of the other instruments that mask any glitches you hear on the vocal-only track. As for how the author did this. He must have had access to the various stems - there are normally separate tracks for bass/guitar/drums/vocals. And vocals are often not recorded in the main studio but in a vocal booth where the singer is isolated from the 'spill' of the other instruments. Also, the vocal is untreated - i.e no reverb - it's a dry recording. When you add reverb, real or artificial, it gives the voice more depth. You would be surprised at how bad some well-known singers sound without this treatment. At least there's no bloody AutoTune. What you are hearing is pretty much standard for studios. There are very few vocalists who can carry a tune without any form of sound treatment.
