goth metal raver Wrote:erm... NWOBHM stands for New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath were the first real heavy metal band - how can they be new wave? NWOBHM was early 80s metal (Iron Maiden, Saxon etc) gtfo I corrected myself. Maiden and Saxon were both founded in the mid-70s. /fail Ok, Doom Metal, big whoop so the influence is now at 25%. Sabbath is the shit yeah.

In the same way Sabbath are mostly viewed as a 70s band (but they formed in the 60s) and Maiden are mostly viewed as an 80s metal band. The music press coined the term NWOBHM for all the new metal bands releasing their first albums 79/80/81 kind of time.

goth metal raver Wrote:And pretty much all types of Doom Metal are inspired by Black Sabbath. Doom is metal played slow and intense, like Sabbath. Stoner is the more grungy, psychedelic form - epic is more operatic, sludge more punky, death doom has similarities with both death metal and goth, and funeral doom is so extremely slow that it's really a kind of extreme or experimental metal. Types of Doom Metal: Stoner: YouTube - Kyuss - One Inch Man Epic: YouTube - Candlemass - Mirror Mirror Sludge: YouTube - Eyehategod - White Nigger Death Doom: YouTube - My Dying Bride - The Cry Of Mankind Funeral Doom: YouTube - THERGOTHON - Evoken (2) I'm still just discovering Doom metal but thanks to the internet that means I already know a fair bit

:hand: I do not like this heavy, scary, metal. It's too hard. Most of it, anyway. When I think of doom metal, I definitely think of Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden, I do not think stoner rock.

Good to know.

I like Stoner and its relatives, as discussed.
They brought back the Sabbath influence, and a more groovy, rootsy, laid-back sound. A lot of 80s metal was good, but some of the obsession with speed, screaming and wailing, guitar acrobatics, complexity, image, etc. got boring after a while.
