For me Spain will be the ones to beat.
Amazing squad, with a huge amount of depth.
It'll take a special team, and a special match to beat them.
But then that's what the WC is all about!

i could care less who wins as long as its a new nation. i hate how the same countries win the cup all the time. partially, because they seed the tournament by world rankings, and not how the countries fared in qualifying.
in the 2002 world cup england won its qualifying group, but germany who finished 2nd got seeded. argentina and ecuador finished 1st and 2nd in south america's qualifying, but brazil and argentina were seeded. IMO its not right.
and lets not forget the tournament is littered with controversy and scandal every year its held.
even though one of the perennial powerhouses will most likely win the tournament, i can at least root against south africa. it will be nice to see if they become the first host team to be eliminated after the group stage. with mexico, uruguay, and france in their group it will take some major match fixing for them to advance.

I want to talk trash but I'll admit England has the advantage. You guys have Rooney - but no Beckham - this year. Still, it is an exciting way to start it off.
Isn't South Africa's first match against Mexico? I don't see South Africa making past the first round.

England's captain Rio Ferdinand has been despatched home injured. I wouldn't be surprised to see an early exit for the team...

Rio going home injured is bad news but, lets hope that Fabio can convince them that its not money or one man or ego etc that gets the results but, hard work , positive thinking and a bit of luck that is important.................................................Besides he needs to get cracking with some training at penalty shoot outs and calm cool tempers because those are England's Achilles heals....................
I still think they have a good chance but, they must go in with the correct team approach and it is the TEAM approach that will do it..................lets face it, a good team can cope with the loss of one man who ever he is! Even the captain and now is a golden opportunity for a new person to shine in the captain's role.

So far, I've been really looking forward to the World Cup this year but all these injuries are really putting a damper on. Latest I heard is Ivory Coast's Drogba is injured (broken arm), Nigeria's Mikel & Holland's Robben (along with the above Ferdinand) are also out of action. All major players but I think England will miss Ferdinand a lot as he is a big strong defender & Upson doesn't really fit as a replacement for him IMO. Also Robben will be sorely missed too. I think there may be other players injured, just cant remember who. Let's hope there aren't too many more.
